Higher Education is a crucial multiplier with regard to the use of new technologies and AI approaches in education. With the VR-intense approach we integrate the use of virtual reality (VR) in higher education courses. Here we integrate especially courses for teacher education programmes, where future teachers can come in contact with new technologies, digital approaches and VR and can function as multipliers in different educational fields. This is a direct stimulation of learning and teaching practices. Moreover, the higher education students of our study programmes should get in touch with new technologies and VR and learn how to handle it. Therefore, also the lecturers have to be trained in this field, because they are often not really used to VR use. This fits to the work of the EU Commission, who has already launched a Virtual and Augmented Reality Industrial coalition. This should be bringing together industry and policy makers. But, with regard to higher education there is still a deficit. In July 2023 the EU also presented an EU strategy to lead on Web 4.0 and virtual worlds. So, the topic of VR-intense fits exactly to the current needs. It supports digital capabilities of higher education institutions and will also take green aspects into account. We are focussing on the digital readiness of students and lecturer in the EU partner countries of VR-intense and focus on innovative approaches with regard to digital transformation and how this is displayed and integrated in higher education. By supporting digital capabilities within VR-intense support we also support the target group of students with disabilities. For them the use of VR offers new perspectives, because collaboration and moving to different places is often not easy.
VR-intense implements VR solutions like field trips for getting to know the universities and for interaction and collaboration across Europe at the universities and will create learning scenarios and training courses to improve VR use. European Citizenship and educational, economic or engineering topics that take VR as a basis to support students and lecturers in HED. The VR solutions and the training courses for students and lecturers will be designed, programmed, implemented and evaluated.
Objectives: VR-intense builds up supportive VR setting to: (a) introduce students to higher education institutions and study programmes in Europe, (b) improve social and communicative skills as well as the ability to study, (c) offer immersive learning experiences with regard to European Citizenship for seminars and lectures. (d) to create two VR tools - one for fieldtrips and one for collaboration The main objective is to create new VR integrating teaching and learning environments for higher education.
Work Packages: WP1: Project Management WP2: VR-intense solutions - VR tools for field trips and for collaboration across Europe WP3: VR-intense course - Learning modules on the use of VR in higher Education lectures and students WP4: VR-intense implementation, evaluation and handbook design WP5: Dissemination and Exploitation
